The News department at Thrillist covers the fast-moving stories we care about as a brand -- yes, we have a heavy focus on food and drink, but travel, health, sex + dating, tech, cars, and entertainment all factor into our coverage, in major ways.
We're looking for a News Staff Writer who can spot the stories that everyone will be talking about in an hour, and write clean, highly informative stories full of tone and angle at a rapid pace. You also need to know how to spin a story forward to make it wholly your own. This role will also require working one weekend day (you'll get a weekday off), which means working very autonomously within our brand framework, and making important calls without a ton of live oversight.
- Write 5 short, informative, punchy news stories every day Ensure those stories are carefully selected to both align with the values of our site, and also be true high performers on social Write remarkably clean copy without fail Source grabby, legal images that perfectly reflect each story's content Pay incredibly close attention to what's going on in our categories and direct your efforts towards the big opportunities Post stories on our social media platforms by prescribed times Use third party listening tools, but also devise your own unique and creative paths to the very best stories out there
- 1-2 years writing experience at a fast-paced digital publisher -- news writing experience preferred Bachelor's degree -- none of those damn married-people degrees here Must be able to self-manage and self-motivate day in and day out May not employ Self magazine to manage or motivate A constant commitment to writing tight, clean, bulletproof copy
