Job Summary:

teNeues Publishing, one of the leading illustrated publishers of stationery and refined books focusing on photography, design, art, food, lifestyle, travel, popular culture, and fashion, seeks a part-time Assistant Editor to provide editorial support and expertise for the Editorial Director in content acquisition and execution for books, and alongside the Stationery Creative Director, participate in developing and sheperding new products from conception to print, including the Stationery Catalog, for our innovative and diverse stationery program and expanding line of paper gift items, including the procurement of new artwork and securing permissions.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide editorial support at all stages of stationery and book development, from proposal to publication, including light research, proofreading and copyediting, liaising with artists and authors, clearing permissions for artwork, and executing artist contracts.

  • For the book program, duties include, but are not limited to: proofreading and copyediting copy for the book catalog, texts, and indices for book projects, compiling editorial material for book titles for the Press and Publicity departments, liaising with authors, designers, and teNeues colleagues based in Europe as necessary, and fielding new book proposals
  • For the stationery program, duties include, but are not limited to: participating in the selection of new artists/artwork for new products, soliciting and corresponding with new artists, and executing artist contracts and check requests; preparing and organizing all editorial material (final hi-res images, credits, and text) for the stationery designer to create products; proofreading and editing stationery product proofs; and creating master spreadsheet for the given bi-annual stationery program (Spring, Fall)
  • For the production of the stationery catalog, duties include preparing page sequencing document and editorial components (welcome letter, index) for the catalog designer; proofreading catalog and proofs for editorial accuracy and color/quality anomalies

 Experience / Qualifications:

  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience in publishing, preferably in art books and illustrated printed matter
  • BA degree or equivalent work experience
  • Must possess excellent proofreading and copyediting skills (professional knowledge of grammar rules)
  • Proven ability to set priorities and multi-task to meet important deadlines
  • Must have interest in visual culture and art & illustration
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills and clear and effective communication skills, both in person and in writing
  • Must exhibit a positive, professional attitude and be a team player
  • Must be highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Must be self-motivated and efficient
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Adobe Creative Suite familiarity a plus
