Senior video journalist - digital news and features
BBC News is seeking a talented senior video journalist to join its expanding digital team in North America.
Your job will be to generate original news and feature stories and to tell them in the most visual and creative way, while also mentoring junior video journalists on editorial and technical matters.
With at least five years experience, you will have a proven track record of producing, filming and editing videos to the highest standard, working either independently or with colleagues.
You will be comfortable covering everything from breaking news to big name interviews; you will create content ranging from analytical video explainers to long-form character-driven features.
At a time of fast-changing digital journalism, you will develop innovative forms of storytelling to help the BBC reach new audiences across online, mobile and social.
Bursting with original ideas, you will also have proven editorial judgment and understand that the BBC's global reputation is built on accuracy and impartiality.
Extensive knowledge of news and current affairs in the United States is essential along with a desire to approach these subjects from fresh perspectives - and to recognise how international audiences may see things differently.
The successful candidate will be a digital native who instinctively understands how users find content and how to sell a story to appeal to different audiences across the US - as well as experience in using analytics to monitor and measure performance.
Working with a team of digital writers, video journalists and audience engagement specialists - as well as colleagues from BBC TV, radio and language services - you will work to the Editor of the North America edition of the BBC News website creating content for both the US and global audiences.
You will have the talent and energy to inspire and lead others as well as the ability to work calmly under pressure and troubleshoot problems.
You will be equally comfortable working from the bureau to produce daily news videos following the day’s events, or spending a week in the field reporting, producing and filming original stories on your own. Flexibility and a willingness to work in a variety of formats is essential.
At least five years experience as a video journalist. Comfortable using Final Cut Pro X or the aptitude to learn it quickly. Experience with After Effects, Photoshop and Illustrator is strongly preferred but not essential.
Must have the right to work in the United States.
Please send resume, examples of your work and a brief explanation of what you think makes a good digital video.
