Agence France-Presse (AFP) is seeking an experienced journalist to work on its English Desk in Washington DC, the main editing hub for stories from AFP correspondents in North America and Latin America. The fast-paced desk of 12 editors operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year producing stories for AFP’s global audience on a wide variety of subjects. The job involves editing stories written in English and translating stories from French and Spanish into English. There are also reporting opportunities for motivated journalists. Candidates must be open to working evening, weekend and overnight shifts. At least five years of news reporting and editing experience are required. Candidates must demonstrate an ability to work under pressure and to multitask. Excellent French is required along with some Spanish. Washington is the headquarters for AFP’s North America operation, which consists of bureaus in Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, Montreal, New York, Ottawa, San Francisco and the United Nations.
