Associate Agent / Assistant
Nonfiction literary agent, who specializes in representing high-profile experts, especially in health, food, entertainment, science, personal development, and business, is looking for an associate agent, who will spend half time assisting and half time agenting. Responsibilities include client management, book proposal and pitch writing, and business development. This is an in-office position for someone with 2+ years of work experience, who is especially interested in nonfiction and is ready to transition into an associate agenting role.
Please email: (1) a cover letter; (2) CV; and (3) a list of three experts you think should have book deals, with a one-sentence description of their platforms.
You must be able to write clear and compelling prose and be comfortable pitching books and authors in-person and on the phone. The best candidates will understand books, sales, and marketing and be able to communicate an author's strengths and ideas in a single sentence and in a single page, as well as in a full proposal and book. You should understand that a good agent matches the best experts with great book ideas with the perfect publishing team. You must be able to initiate, implement, and complete projects without hand-holding. You must thrive in a fast-paced, demanding environment with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple, conflicting deadlines and expectations. You must excel in self-direction, results-orientation, and attention to detail and have high expectations for yourself. You must be comfortable dealing with high-end clients and solving unsolvable problems on a daily basis.
The more you commit to this position, the more you will get out of it. The right hire will love this work.
