Exciting opportunity to join The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse (CASA), an independent policy and research center located in midtown Manhattan that serves as a leading voice on substance abuse and addiction. We educate the general public, conduct research, and advocate for improvements in policy, prevention, and treatment for addiction.  

Job Requirements

The Media Relations Associate will contribute to CASA’s overall media relations and communications efforts to increase our visibility as a leading policy and scientific authority on addiction prevention and treatment.

Job responsibilities include: creating and implementing a press plan to promote CASA and raising awareness about our mission; identifying, pitching and responding to journalists from a broad range of media outlets to promote organization initiatives, thought leadership, research findings and policy recommendations; drafting press releases, statements, advisories, op-eds, letters to the editor, talking points, messages, blogs and other media materials; assisting with interview preparation, media training spokespeople and monitoring the media.  

Qualified applicants will have 3 to 6 years of communications and/or PR experience including working directly with reporters and producers. Seeking a self-starter with the ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects and priorities. Outstanding verbal and written communications skills are required, including the ability to translate complex ideas and scientific findings into accessible public messages. Agency experience, including internships, preferred. Knowledge of Cision, PRNewswire, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook is required.
