Engineering News-Record (ENR), the leading source of news and data for the construction industry for 143 years, is seeking an experienced reporter and editor to cover federal agencies and Congress as a stringer. The candidate must be based in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area.
 
The reporter will work closely with ENR’s Washington bureau chief to produce timely, hard-hitting and analytical stories that will provide information to our readers about important legislation, regulations and court decisions that will affect their businesses. The reporter’s main beats will be environment, energy, labor and safety and health

Experience should include at least three years’ reporting on the federal government on the staff of a newspaper, magazine, newsletter or B2B business journal. Ideal candidates will be self-starters and proven reporters and writers who are knowledgeable about how Congress and federal agencies work.

The position calls for producing stories for a weekly print magazine as well as breaking news stories for the ENR web page. Video or photography experience is a plus.

Stringers should be available, sometimes on short notice, to cover congressional votes, hearings and press briefings, as well as federal agency and interest group briefings and conferences in the Washington, D.C., area.
 
An understanding of construction, engineering, architecture, technology and business management is desirable but not required.

Stringers will be paid per assignment.
