What you’ll be doing...

The User Experience Research Manager will lead a qualitative research practice and oversee a range of UX research studies as part of the UX Strategy and Design team at Verizon.

Experience and knowledge of conducting the following methodologies are imperative: one-on-one usability studies (remote and in-person), ethnography, contextual interviews, innovation and co-design workshops, journey mapping, online and in-person focus groups, mobile device testing and unboxing, card sorting, persona development, and other online user testing techniques.

Deep understanding and experience with front-end research, experience of planning, designing, managing, running and communicating user research for mobile applications, web, network, and devices to multiple types of organizational stakeholders is necessary – business, technology, design, finance, network and supply chain. In addition, this role will work closely with UX designers, interaction designers and design technologists to drive effective user research. We are a fast moving organization and the successful candidate will therefore need to be agile, creative, and have a practical approach to product user research.

This position requires the ability to work with minimal direction and will work on multiple projects simultaneously, so strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task are critical. This role will also have 2-3 contract research employees as direct reports.

This is a full-time position located in Basking Ridge, NJ


    Refine and rebuild a strong heuristic user research framework for the Device Marketing group to leverage.Provide world-class expertise in user research and raise the user research bar with regards to mix of methods and quality of output.Oversee project delivery from kickoff to results presentation to ensure high quality deliverables and impactful, customer and design-driven insights.Build a trusted advisory relationship with cross-functional teams as well as with peers within the UX Strategy & Design team.Contribute to ongoing thought leadership on current topics and trends in UX, evolving the qualitative research product suite to ensure alignment with business needs.Determine the optimal strategy for project execution including appropriate project staffing, research tools, and vendor partners.Manage, train and develop a team of UX researchers, some in NJ, and some in Waltham, MA.Manage, maintain and administer tests in the UX Lab in Waltham, MA. Must be able to travel to Waltham for testing and team oversight.Perform all aspects of the research project lifecycle including writing requirements, screeners, moderating, taking notes and presenting findings to internal and possibly external audiences.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

    Bachelor’s degree or six or more years of work experience.Six or more years of relevant work experience.Even better if you have:

    10+ years of proven success conducting user research in a large-scale software platform settings, or equivalent.A strong portfolio demonstrating past work experience and deliverables (e.g.: study plans, reports).Experience with ethnographic work, contextual Inquiry, insight-related user research, and traditional research methodologies with demonstrated results.A BS or Ph.D. degree in psychology, cognitive science, Human Factors, HCI, or similar.Extensive experience operating as a senior individual contributor in a user research role.Ability to work in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment, manage competing priorities, and be an independent problem-solver.Excellent communication skills and the ability to lead / facilitate discussions.Exceptional time management skills.Creating discussion guides, screeners, test protocols, and final reports.Using online/remote usability tools.Presentation skills, including building engaging PowerPoint presentations and sharing results and recommendations.
