This is a Major National Media Company that includes premier media properties focused on covering the entertainment and music industries via leading digital destinations, print publications, and original video programming. We are looking for a Sr. Director of SVOD to lead the launch and ongoing management of a new premium subscription video service currently in development focused on content with music at its core. This content will span originals, TV, movies, documentaries and more.

The Sr. Director of SVOD will be a senior leader responsible for launching and long-term success of our SVOD strategy and operation. S/he will focus on defining the content strategy, staffing the team, establishing partnerships with platforms, and creating processes for day-to-day operations. This person will have significant experience in SVOD with demonstrated success in building channels and platforms with strong subscriber growth. A strong understanding and experience with defining video strategy, leading teams, and programming content for our target audience will be required as well. Experience with licensing content is a plus.  

This role will report to the GM of Video.

Responsibilities

  • Launch and oversee the SVOD strategy and channels
  • Staff and manage the supporting team for our SVOD channels
  • Establish and manage relationships with platforms and partners
  • Close and manage partnership deals
  • Manage content on each partner platform
  • Oversee and execute marketing tactics that build our subscriber base
  • Establish and manage to revenue, cost, and subscriber goals
  • Work the team and the GM of Video to define and optimize our SVOD strategy
  • Work with Licensing team to define our content strategy
  • Understand what content works and what doesn’t
  • Establish relationships with video content owners/distributors as necessary
  • Constantly review platform performance data to inform optimization and future strategy
  • Identify new opportunities to expand reach and generate new revenue streams with SVOD
  • Own the P&L and ensure we hit goals
  • Coordinate with in-house video production team to ensure original content is being produced that will be successful on our SVOD platforms

Requirements:

  • 5-7 years of experience in digital video, 2-3 years specifically with SVOD
  • Team and individual management experience
  • Existing relationships with contacts at the top OTT platforms
  • An understanding of licensing and content acquisition as part of an overall programming strategy
  • Demonstrated experience launching new video channels/platforms/products
  • Experience marketing, ideally subscriptions, to our target audience
  • Ability to prioritize, manage several projects at once and work under pressure
  • A strategic thinker who feels confident making analytical and creative decisions
  • Comfortable moving quickly and creating new processes/concepts/strategies that don’t previously exist
  • Passion for digital, music, movies, and video
  • Entrepreneurial mindset, proactive thinker ability to thrive in an often ambiguous, fast-paced, start-up environment
  • BA/BS required
