The Real Deal is on the hunt for a talented video reporter to join our team in Manhattan. We're looking for someone who can whip up creative, snappy shorts for our social platforms and create well-produced, engaging news packages for The video reporter will also coordinate and shoot interviews in TRD’s in-office studio.

With over 2.5 million visits a month, is the go-to news source for the city’s top real estate, finance, architecture and investment professionals. Our award-winning coverage includes breaking news, investigative stories, market reports and longform narrative profiles. Our work is regularly cited by the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, NBC, CNN and a host of business publications.

This is the biggest and most dynamic real estate market in the world, with a rich cast of characters that are great fodder for visual storytelling. The ideal candidate will have an interest in covering money and power and a keen interest in learning about how the industry brings together elements of politics, business, law, and urban planning.

Job responsibilities

  • Create short, social-driven videos for The Real Deal’s Facebook page

  • Shoot and produce interviews between reporters and industry players as part of The Real Deal’s TRD Studio series

  • Develop sources, conduct interviews and create original news packages and video features

  • Travel to and film company events and showcases; film one-on-one interviews, general event footage and panel discussions

  • Pitch and produce larger video packages, such as 15-minute “mini” documentaries, animated explainers, etc.

  • Lead distribution/packaging of video content on, Facebook and YouTube


  • At least 2 years of experience producing video content for a media/news organization

  • Proficiency in lighting, sound and using a DSLR

  • Adobe Creative Cloud (Premiere Pro, Photoshop, After Effects, etc.)

  • Strong interviewing and reporting skills (videos on will be accompanied by a written story)

  • Comfortable being on camera

  • Photography skills

  • An interest in New York City real estate and the intersection of money, power and politics

  • Flexibility to attend events and functions after office hours

  • Knowledge of motion graphics is a huge plus

  • Ability to manage time and projects, with quick turnarounds on social videos

  • Ability to shoot and edit by yourself
