POSITION: Communications Director
HOURS: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week, Monday Friday, 9:00am 5:30pm, with flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required
OVERVIEW: Unique opportunity for creative, independent and passionate advocate for social justice to join one of NYC's most innovative nonprofits, providing caring and effective housing and services to homeless men and women, as its first ever Communications Director.
Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, and working closely with BRC's CEO and President, the Communications Director will be responsible for establishing and implementing a new and effective strategy to raise awareness of BRC, creating and disseminating content through various portals, events and relationships. Duties and responsibilities will include:
- Develop and implement a communication strategy to engage with various audiences over diverse platforms. Create content and coordinate its dissemination via website, social media, digital communications, newsletters, op-eds, press releases, and other materials. Identify true narratives of BRC's achievements and those of the people it serves, and use various media including written, audio and visual to broadly disseminate them. Proactively identify opportunities to increase awareness of BRC's work and mission. Managing all aspects of BRC's online presence, including website management and SEO, and digital analytics. Develop strategy for media engagement; build and maintain relationships with members of the media. Oversee brand management and create opportunities for brand identity through use of BRC's logos, images, permissions and copyrights, and other elements of institutional "brand."
- BA Required Self-motivated, able to work independently and responsibly, with limited supervision Superb writing and editing skills, as well as the ability to translate complex ideas into accessible and engaging prose. Proven track record of designing and managing communication strategies. Energy, initiative, intellect, flexibility and a team player. Exceptional organizational abilities and attention to detail. Computer literacy required; excellent database, word-processing, spreadsheet skills. Ability to prioritize tasks, and work accurately under the pressure of a deadline-focused job. Excellent communication skills; discretion and diplomacy in dealing with the key organizational stakeholders.
