Job Description: 

Zócalo Public Square, the Los Angeles-based ASU Knowledge Enterprise, seeks a driven and dynamic Editorial and Social Media Specialist.

Zócalo connects people to ideas and to each other by examining essential questions in an accessible, broad-minded, and democratic spirit. We pursue this mission by publishing ideas journalism and presenting free live events from Los Angeles to Washington, D.C. to Berlin.

*THIS POSITION IS BASED IN LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA*

 

Essential Duties: 

•Play a key role in all Zócalo events, from start to finish

•Work on-site at all events to ensure the smooth execution of each program

•Carry out an effective events outreach strategy, including marketing, audience relations, publicity, and social media

•Support Zócalo’s publishing—including copyediting, uploading copy and artwork to our content management system, producing newsletters, and developing social media content and strategy

•Assist with administrative tasks, ranging from note-taking to ordering books to maintaining organizational databases

Days and Schedule: Travel, weekends and evening work may be required 

Minimum Qualifications 

Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND three (3) years of related experience; OR, Seven (7) years of related experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

•Evidence of effective social skills and experience in using persuasive, personable and professional communication skills

•Experience in communicating in person, on the phone, and via email

•Experience in using organizational skills and thriving in a fast-paced environment

•Experience in work that requires hard-work

•Experience in working in a team

•Experience in working with outside partners

 

Working Environment: 

•Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse

•Occasional bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 20 pounds

•Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts

•Communicate to perform essential functions

•Expected to be responsive to customers, engaged in work production, resourceful, flexible, and respectful of others
