Production Designer - Diabetic Living
The Production Designer works with the edit and art departments of Diabetic Living quarterly magazine. This position releases and tracks art, layouts and the progress of layouts through the editorial process. The Production Designer flows text, adjusts layouts, places hi-res images, paginates the issue and creates fractional pages. They work closely with the Imaging Center to release and correct color, and ship page PDFs during a close. They help to manage the production process for print and digital.
Essential Job Functions
25% Releases color to Creative Library and Imaging Center and manages color correction
35% Designs layouts and flows text into layouts using style sheets; adjusting layouts-for print and digital (as needed)
30% Manages the production flow and schedule to meet deadlines
10% Reviews designs for print and digital and fixes mistakes and creatively solves problems
Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements | All must be met to be considered.
Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design or equivalent degree/experience in art or related field
Minimum of 2 years previous magazine publishing production, design or digital design experience required.
Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Proficiency with Macintosh computers and publishing software, including InDesign, Word, Excel, Photoshop, CS
Familiarity with FileMaker helpful.
Ability to meet deadlines.
Good interpersonal skills.
Ability to work in collaborative environment and defend design solutions.
Ability to accept constructive criticism as well as implement changes to solve editorial challenges.
Extreme attention to detail and consistency of work, with a focus on composition, typography and photo direction.
Ability to work with databases a plus.
Some web and digital production knowledge required.
Can handle stress from tight deadlines.
