Executive Editor, Diabetic Living SIM
Serves as the Executive Editor of Diabetic Living magazine (quarterly) and oversees Diabetic Living-branded special publications. This includes conceptualizing of content, writing stories, and overseeing the selection, development, evaluation and photography of recipes for the Diabetic Living brand. Executive Editor identifies and articulates long-term content vision; translates long-term vision into measurable goals; clearly communicates challenging and realistic expectations; and encourages others to go in the desired direction. The Executive Editor is responsible for management of other Diabetic Living staff writers and editors, including student apprentices and interns.
Essential Job Functions
75% Provide editorial direction on Diabetic Living magazine, including story research, recipe selection, writing, editing, and fact checking.
Meet M&A budget & key Content Center deadlines for all issues.
Develop yearlong plans for Diabetic Living-branded magazines.
Collaborate with art staff to produce lifestyle and food photography for quarterly magazine and bookazines.
Maintain a strong relationship with all advisory board members to make sure the high editorial standards for Diabetic Living are met. Evaluate board members annually and replace members as needed.
Oversee Diabetic Living's social media strategy, and respond to reader feedback (letters, e-mail, social media, etc.) in a timely manner.
15% Keep abreast of trends and developments in the diabetes industry by maintaining contact with expert sources and by reading trade and consumer print and online sources. Represent Diabetic Living at industry events and on sales calls as needed.
10% Supervise Diabetic Living editorial staff.
Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements
Four-year college degree, preferably in English or Journalism
Minimum 6 years editorial experience in magazines, newspapers, or digital publishing. Minimum 1 year supervisory experience.
Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
In-depth knowledge of diabetes. Knowledge of consumer nutrition and food trends. Strong computer skills and online experience required. Experience with publishing software and setting editorial budgets and schedules highly desirable.
