Overview

Foreign Affairs is seeking a dynamic and innovative digital leader to oversee the magazine’s digital products. With dual reporting to the Executive Editor and Chief Revenue Officer, this person will drive the vision and strategy for our digital presence, developing an exceptional user experience that grows both our audience and revenue.
Foreign Affairs is a multiplatform media operation that includes a print and digital magazine, website, mobile application, and events. Foreign Affairs has a circulation of more than 200,000 print and digital subscribers, and nearly one million monthly visitors to the website.  

The major responsibilities of this position will include (but are not limited to):

  • Develop a long-term strategic vision for Foreign Affairs’ website based on research and data
  • Coordinate all new products including coordinating market and user research, generating product requirements, determining specifications and timetables, and collaborating on marketing plans
  • Project manage the full product life-cycle from the beginning to product launch 
  • Lead and manage a team of on-site and remote developers, designers, and analysts
  • Define KPIs, OKRs, and develop clear and actionable insights from data/metrics
  • Collaborate with Foreign Affairs editors and business team to advance both editorial and business objectives
  • Work collaboratively with the team that manages the digital products produced by the Council on Foreign Relations

Qualifications

  • At least 5 years product and project management experience leading agile teams, preferably in digital media
  • Proven track record of delivering highly successful and innovative products
  • Experience and fluency with using digital analytics tools such Google Analytics and Omniture to make informed decisions
  • Strong experience with Agile methodologies
  • Proficiency in design software such as Sketch and the Adobe suite, as well as with Atlassian Jira, Redmine, or similar issue-trackers; familiarity with distributed version-control systems such as GitHub and with continuous deployment techniques
  • Solid understanding of web standards, web browser capabilities, SEO, user experience, and common web technologies
  • Deep knowledge of current trends and best practices in magazine publishing preferred
  • Experience with traditional print fulfillment providers (e.g., TCS, CDS, etc.) preferred
  • Strong presentation and public speaking skills
  • Degree in related field; interest in international relations a plus
