Journalist Applicants, Columbia University Energy Journalism Initiative - NY
The Center on Global Energy Policy at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) is pleased to open the call for applications for our second annual Energy Journalism Initiative (EJI) seminar.
Following the successful launch of EJI in Summer 2017, CGEP looks forward to continue fulfilling EJI's mission to promote quality journalism in the energy sector by educating and sensitizing journalists about the multiple disciplines at play in key energy debates and stories, including policy, markets, finance, climate change, technology and geopolitics.
Energy Journalism Initiative Purpose
The Initiative's mission is to promote quality journalism in the energy sector by educating and sensitizing journalists about the multiple disciplines at play in key energy debates and stories including policy, markets, finance, climate change, technology and geopolitics.
June 12-15, 2018: Three-day, all expenses paid, seminar conducted at the SIPA Center on Global Energy Policy in New York, with presentations from academic, business and public-sector experts.
To complement the seminar, the Initiative will also develop and catalogue relevant educational materials and tools, provide webinars on specific issues, and create a network of high-quality resources to improve the level of understanding of these complex issues.
Participants will be expected to produce a brief report within six months of completion of the seminar that describes how the program enhanced their coverage and changed their approach to specific stories.
The Energy Journalism Initiative invites applications from journalists who are relatively new to covering energy: with five or less years of experience on the beat. In particular, the Initiative will look for print reporters whose coverage appears in national and local newspapers, wire services, trade press, and internet/new-media outlets. Freelance journalists are eligible to apply. Journalist must have no more than 10 years of total journalistic experience.
The deadline for applications to participate in the Initiative is February 2, 2018, and participants will be selected in April.
