JLG editorial assistants must have a good critical eye, be able to articulate ideas both in written evaluations and group discussions, work through a high volume of material under deadline pressure, and be willing to take on various duties in our small department.
The major responsibilities of the job are assisting the Editorial Director, performing administrative tasks such as logging in and tracking submissions, reading and evaluating prepublication materials of books published for children and young adults, and writing copy for our catalogs and website.
A Bachelor’s degree is required. Strong data entry and computer skills are essential. Knowledge of proofreading and copyediting marks is a plus, as is familiarity with children’s and young adult books and the library market. Other desirable skills include interest and experience in social media and Spanish proficiency.
Please submit cover letter, résumé, and a one-page writing sample (article, essay, reader’s report, catalog copy, etc.). Because of the volume of applications we receive, we are unable to provide status updates. Please do not contact the editorial staff directly via telephone or e-mail.
