Inside Higher Ed, an established and expanding national daily online publication covering the complex and compelling world of higher education, seeks an inquisitive, enterprising and talented reporter for its Admissions Insider content channel focusing on college admissions.

Admissions Insider is a growing community of interest as well as a source of high-quality professionally oriented content, ultimately offering an integrated mix of information services, events and professional development. The audience is a mix of college admissions and enrollment management officers and high school counselors who advise students about postsecondary possibilities. As competition for students intensifies as colleges grapple with escalating financial pressures and increasing responsibility for student success, incisive coverage of admissions and enrollment issues is more valued than ever.

Among the issues the reporter will explore: the pros and cons of standardized testing, changes in the U.S. climate for international students, pressure on colleges to enroll more students from underrepresented populations, the role of race and the legal status of affirmative action, and colleges’ creative strategies and tactics.

The reporter will be expected to write several articles a week in a mix of formats, including breaking news, features, analysis and how-to. Candidates should be able to juggle multiple articles at once, and should like to dig deeply and to learn. Candidates should have at least two years of professional reporting experience; a background covering admissions or higher education is a major plus.

Inside Higher Ed publishes breaking news, features, commentary, blogs and other content each weekday, and has quickly established itself as a fresh, authoritative, independent voice for its 1.9 million unique monthly users and 120,000 daily e-mail subscribers.

Inside Higher Ed offers competitive pay, good benefits (including heavily subsidized health, dental and life insurance premiums), and three weeks' vacation. Centrally located in downtown D.C. Interested applicants should send a cover letter, resume, and five strong clips .
