JOB PURPOSE:

Reporting to the Associate Dean for Communications and Public Relations, the Assistant Director of Digital and Social Media is a key position that touches all aspects of the work of the department and interacts with all levels of staff, the Dean and faculty.  The position will develop and implement the digital community strategy and manage online news content in support of department/law school goals and in collaboration with the Associate Directors of Publications, Media Relations and Online Communications and Identity and key stakeholders across the organization.  This position will spearhead our institutional digital/social media channels and activities, including ongoing maintenance and content for these channels, working with partners throughout the law school to advance their social media activities, monitoring and analyzing the effectiveness of our social media activities and recommending improvements, managing our digital/rich media assets, and in some cases creating and producing rich media and other content.

CORE DUTIES*:

  • Manage development and implementation of digital community strategy for the law school, including how to engage customers and fundamentally impact their relationship with constituents through social media channels, blogs and the web. Partner with departments, clinics, programs/centers, faculty and others to achieve goals and ensure coordination.
  • Responsible for ownership and management of institutional digital channels and/or the web.
  • Provide strategic social media advice and support to key stakeholders (e.g. faculty, departments, programs & centers), including keeping them abreast of/educating/supporting them around social media channel design changes and updates.
  • Create and curate content and news and promote across the law school’s social/digital media channels (via blogs, Storify, videos, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, website homepage, website news center, magazine blog/online features, and more).  Oversee editorial strategy and voice of the content through the channels.
  • Create/produce rich media content, including photography and video, and strategy for online use.
  • Perform daily monitoring and conduct social media analysis; set measurable goals for success/benchmarking; manage constituent complaints and reputational issues and other high priorities on digital channels.
  • Supervise student interns.

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience:

Bachelor's degree and minimum 3 years of relevant experience or a combination of education and relevant experience.  5+ years of digital PR experience preferred.  Some supervisory experience a plus.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the web, technology, social platforms, current and future trends.
  • Excellent writing and analytical skills.
  • Subject matter expertise in digital community building.
  • Professional presentation, strong interpersonal skills and a cheerful disposition a must.
  • Demonstrated problem solver.
  • Ability to leverage current and future trends to help an organization succeed at the initiative level, for a specific group, team or unit.
  • Self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit; highly productive person who takes initiative; strong work ethic; is eager to meet and exceed objectives and take on more responsibility.
  • Ability to work independently to meet expected deadlines and schedules.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

  • Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
  • Frequently stand/walk, sit, use a telephone, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, speaking.
  • Occasionally grasp forcefully, writing by hand.
  • Rarely sort/file paperwork.
