Freelance’s News & Insights section, a real estate portal operated by News Corp., seeks freelance journalists to report and write original, jargon-free news, business and feature stories on the national housing market for the website. We do not write for industry professionals. Instead, we’re looking for clever and captivating stories on all corners of the real estate market. Our readers are everyday home buyers, sellers and owners interested in how residential real estate reports, housing trends and changes in government policies relate to them.

Our news stories run the gamut of breaking news and shorter pieces on housing reports, timely articles on the looming deadline to extend the national flood insurance program and longer stories on how a wall built along the U.S.-Mexico border could impact local real estate markets.

Articles typically run between 350 and 1,600 words. News stories are not written in the first-person. Rates vary based on expertise and experience.

The ideal candidates will be trained journalists with at least five years of experience covering hard news or performing data analyses. They have stellar reporting and reporting chops and are comfortable using data, expert sources and real people to tell clicky, fun-to-read and compelling—as well as sometimes surprising and highly entertaining—stories about the U.S. residential and rental real estate markets.
