The Digital Media Producer, Videographer works as part of the School of Professional Studies in-house media production team (Digital Media Group) to produce instructional, educational, and promotional media content for a wide range of programs within the School of Professional Studies, including pre-college, undergraduate, and executive programs. This media content includes but is not limited to: instructional/course content videos, interviews, promotional videos, audio podcasts, screencast tutorials, and campus event videos.

The primary role of the Digital Media Producer, Videographer is to craft and capture video/audio stories by filming/recording interviews (with faculty, students, administrators), direct-to-camera faculty presentations (with/without teleprompter), b-roll of classroom and campus activities, podcasts, and voiceovers. This individual must be able to identify and execute creative and innovative approaches to bring stories to life, have significant technical expertise as a shooter, and be able to direct and get the best out of their on-camera subjects. This individual participates in planning and pre-production, and may occasionally edit and do other post-production tasks as needed, either on their own or to support the editors in the team.

The Digital Media Producer, Videographer works on multiple projects at once, often in collaboration with other members of the Digital Media Group, and must ensure that project goals are met and media content aligns with the school's objectives and commitment to the highest quality production standards. This is a grade level 9, Instructional Technology position listed as grade level 9E on the University Salary Ranges webpage.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Plans and captures video/audio stories and directs talent (70% of this position)
  • Provides editing and post-production support to other members of the Digital Media Group as needed (20% of this position)
  • Supports the School of Professional Studies and the entire Digital Media Group by identifying and sharing best practices, resources, and ideas around media production (10% of this position)


  • Bachelor's degree and 3-5 years of experience in video/audio production (planning, shooting, directing) preferred or equivalent education and experience
  • Strong ability using DSLR and/or digital cinema cameras, sound, and lighting equipment
  • Proficiency using:
    • Video editing software (e.g. Adobe Premiere Pro)
    • Graphic design software (e.g. Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator)
    • Media conversion tools
  • Fluency in current video technology and media production best practices
  • Ability to coach and direct people in front of the camera
  • Ability to 'storyboard', to plan out a project and to help others to visualize the end result
  • Ability to take complex subjects and explain them clearly to different audiences
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues efficiently
  • Positive and professional attitude; interest in learning new skills

As this individual would be part of a university community, experience and interest in educational media is a plus. The person in this position likes working collaboratively as part of a team, and possesses a thirst to learn about technology, digital media and student learning, and enjoys sharing what they learn with others. The person in this position needs to be capable of taking on projects autonomously. This individual will need to be flexible and ready to accept different job assignments depending on the department's highest priorities.
