NEWS WRITER, MIT Sloan School of Management. Join MIT Sloan to help launch a new, editorial-driven website, Ideas Made to Matter. We’re looking for a skilled and smart news writer who finds surprising insights in academic research, has an eye for exciting new startups and technologies, and brings global business leaders knowledge they need to build and manage innovative companies. You’ll do this in Cambridge’s Kendall Square, one of the most innovative neighborhoods in the country. The beats: corporate functions and systems; and leadership. Additionally, you will be an important member of our social media team. Specific tasks include reporting, editing, and writing news articles; developing expert sources; contributing to an editorial calendar; conducting traffic and audience analysis to inform future work; developing and posting content on social media networks; and collaborating on photography and design ideas.
REQUIRED: Minimum of three years’ experience writing for a business, science, or technology publication; Comfort writing about corporate functions and systems, leadership, and other business topics. Experience writing for web audiences and with social media distribution in mind; Experience packaging news for digital consumption; Strong writing, editing, and copyediting skills, with a careful attention to detail and knowledge of Associated Press style; Familiarity with content management systems; Solid editorial judgment, with a commitment to accuracy and engaging, meaningful content; Understanding of design and photography best practices and tools; Understanding of analytics and tools for measuring impact and reach of content.
