Communications Coordinator – Global Pediatric Medicine

Overview

The Department of Global Pediatric Medicine (GPM) is a new and growing academic department looking for professionals who are eager to help implement the mission of taking St. Jude to the world. This major GPM initiative, known as St. Jude Global, has three goals: to train the clinical workforce, develop and strengthen health systems and patient-centered initiatives, and advance knowledge to sustain continuous improvement through research. Via a rapidly expanding infrastructure and unprecedented collaboration in regional networks, St. Jude Global is the natural evolution of the work St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (SJCRH) started 20 years ago with the International Outreach Program. And now, St. Jude Global will improve the survival rates of children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases worldwide.

Responsibilities

GPM is seeking an enthusiastic and creative team member to fill the vital role of Communications Coordinator. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing a strategic communications plan for GPM and St. Jude Global. This influential role will collaborate with GPM/SJG leadership to identify communication challenges and needs and help to set forth the path and plan to achieve success. The Communications Coordinator will help to develop and support overall communication and culture strategy. This position will also handle internal communications for GPM/SJG events and news within the department and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

The Communications Coordinator is responsible for internal communication efforts, including:

  • Developing thoughtful communication strategies and messaging for multiple audiences including SJ Global Alliance Members, GPM faculty and staff, and SJCRH.
  • Designing creative and effective newsletters, brochures, flyers, presentations, and other infographics.
  • Developing a storytelling portfolio of St. Jude Global programs and sites.
  • Creating dynamic content for website and online messaging
  • Facilitating communication among GPM team members, at SJCRH, and across St. Jude Global member sites.
  • Working with GPM and SJG leaders to develop and implement communication strategies for programs
  • Creating visually appealing and informative presentations
  • Monitoring effectiveness of communications and messaging
  • Liaising with multiple departments at SJCRH to effectively collaborate and communicate GPM and SJG initiatives.
  • Fielding and appropriately answering or directing communication requests.
  • Monitoring and measuring effectiveness of communications.
  • All candidates must submit a cover letter to be considered for the position.

 

Minimum Experience

  • Three (3) years of experience in communications or similar field.
  • Internal communications in a related setting or field.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills.
  • Excellent computer and graphic design skills.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to plan and coordinate multiple projects/work initiatives.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft SharePoint, Microsoft Outlook Calendar tools, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Advanced ability in Adobe Creative Cloud or similar programs.

 

Preferred Experience:

  • Previous work in a nonprofit and/or international community.
  • Demonstrated complex project management skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to plan and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to carry out broad assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Flexibility to adapt to shifting priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal and analytical skills.
  • Cultural sensitivity is a must.
  • Fluency in Spanish is a plus.

Minimum Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications or related field.
  • Master’s degree highly preferred.
