This position can be located in the Phoenix, Los Angeles, Denver or Salt Lake City office. The PR/Communications Coordinator will support the firm's media relations function. Responsibilities include drafting press releases and media pitches, maintaining media lists, monitoring news coverage, compiling our weekly internal news clippings email, placing lawyer-bylined articles, and summarizing media coverage for our website.
The PR/Communications Coordinator also will be asked to write, edit, or proofread a variety of marketing collateral materials, including advertisements, invitations, brochures, legal alerts, and announcements. The ability to incorporate edits from multiple stakeholders is essential.
The selected candidate must be an outgoing, intellectually curious self-starter who keeps abreast of current events, engages our attorneys in conversations about their work, and puts the two together to identify and create pitches that resonate with reporters and editors. Working knowledge of business markets, an ability to translate complex subject matter into plain English, and an inquisitive nature are important. A background in print journalism is preferred, as is law firm experience.
Requirements include a bachelor's degree, preferably in English, journalism, or liberal arts, and a minimum of three years of media relations experience (print journalism), preferably in a law firm or professional services environment. Outstanding writing and editing skills with a command of usage, style, grammar, and punctuation rules and exemplary proofreading skills are necessary to be successful in this position.
