Craft one-pager positioning for all motion pictures released by Universal Picture Group (UPG).
The Universal Pictures Theatrical Marketing organization is searching for a Senior Publicist to handle the staff writing. Located at Universal City, the Senior Publicist will report to the EVP Publicity. This is an IA Guilded position.
Write and edit the production information (including credits, biographies, positioning and narrative copy) for Universal’s approximately 20-21 titles annually. If no unit publicist served on the film (at least 7 titles per year), write the materials from scratch.
Draft press releases and media alerts including, but not limited to, film dating and/or title announcements, start-of-production, wrap announcements, special events with partners, media tours, pop-up events, special promotions (e.g., GET OUT Presidents’ Day screenings, DARK UNIVERSE initiative, MINIONS Takeover), as well as various one-offs (e.g., F I F T Y Live, UNBROKEN Vatican announcement, NBCU-wide global releases affecting UPG films).
Maintain all UPG materials on image.net, EPK.tv and PR Newswire and manage relationships with those vendors.
Edit all corporate partners’ written materials concerning UPG films (negotiated through UP&L) to maintain brand consistency. Includes creation of templates for larger campaigns.
Support Corporate Communications with edits to many materials that division provides to press (fact sheets, dating emails, releases, executive quotes), as well as internal memos to UPG employees.
Develop talking points for talent and filmmakers to ensure that they are discussing each film in a manner flush with evolving marketing and publicity campaign.
Draft quotes attributed to talent for interviews in which written responses are requested.
Alongside Brand Marketing, maintain brand consistency of UPG films across entire Comcast family.
Support international marketing and publicity with myriad territory-specific requests (e.g., special publicity creative for individual markets, edits to in-market press releases).
Edit all partner materials that are funneled through UPG Special Projects (special screening e-mails, festival announcements, online copy, printed materials, etc.).
Serve as final fact checker of all stories for print publications negotiated through UPG’s NY and L.A. Publicity offices.
Caption teaser and key set of images for each film and proof materials from photo department as needed.
Write and distribute media alerts for all Universal premieres.
Edit media alerts for launches supervised by Field Promotions.
Edit radio copy for Creative Advertising and Media teams (i.e., talking points for on-air talent such as Ryan Seacrest, Steve Harvey and Howard Stern; messaging for Clear Channel, taglines for spots, etc.).
Support Digital Team with various projects (e.g., creation of film character descriptions, development of materials for and edits to iBooks, YouTube copy for partners, etc.).
Coordinate with Business Affairs to ensure edits to opening titles and end titles are incorporated before picture lock.
Compose annual CinemaCon and ShowEast letters for UPG president of distribution.
Craft speeches and written materials for UPG talent (e.g., Directors Guild Awards, Hollywood Film Awards, letters to HFPA, soundtrack liner notes on behalf of filmmakers).
Draft packaging copy and digital copy for UP&L partners (e.g., MINIONS toys, JURASSIC WORLD promotions on- and offline).
Support UPHE with necessary materials/lessons learned from the theatrical campaign.
Serve as final editor of all Universal-property-specific releases and alerts generated by Universal Studios Hollywood, Universal Orlando and Universal Japan.
Edit all soundtrack press releases.
Write and/or edit property guides for Illumination Entertainment titles and key Universal properties (e.g., JURASSIC WORLD, FAST & FURIOUS franchise).
Aid Creative Services with copy edits/proofing of advertisements and assist in the development of guild-specific mailers to garner nominations.
Attend long-lead or junket press screenings and write wrap reports.
Write and/or edit BTS/EPK questions for talent before interviews by Creative Content department.
Maintain release-date schedules and current positioning for UPG.
Assist with talent and filmmaker needs at press junkets and premieres.
Must be willing to join the IATSE Publicist union.
Minimum 5 years relevant experience.
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Communications or related study.
Excellent writing and communication skills.
Must be able to cultivate strong relationships.
Must be able to work in a fast paced environment.
Must be able to multi task with many different departments.
