NBC Universal has an opening for a Fixed Term Technical Operations Associate– 2 Year Training Program

The Associate will work in a supported learning environment to develop the skills and knowledge that will assist them in learning the job requirements of different positions, including but not limited to, Technical Director, Audio Engineer, Video Operator, Lighting Director, Robotic Camera Operator, Audio Assist, and Graphics Playback. They will work alongside trained technical staff and perform the functions of daily productions at MSNBC.

  • Learn various critical roles in television production
  • Collaborate with the team
  • Offer technical and creative solutions to create the overall vision for air
  • Prepare and organize show notes, script, set placement and camera directions
  • Build and organize switcher effects, snapshots, transitions and specialty wipes
  • Create and maintain show documentation
  • Test and prepare systems and equipment for use
  • Prepare and route video and audio sources
  • Switch live programs and communicate real-time direction to technical crew
  • Communicate show element coordination during rehearsal and live production
  • Partner with engineering on equipment set up
  • Manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Mix multiple audio sources
  • Coordinate and prepare talent mics and mix-minus for studio and remotes
  • Maintain intercom system for local and remote productions
  • Edit music and sound effects within a short turnaround to air
  • Prepare audio operations technical infrastructure details for assigned shows
  • Set-up, time and configure all camera components and confirm video signals
  • Properly operate, maintain and troubleshoot equipment
  • Shade cameras during events
  • Color Correct live feeds and monitors in the studios
  • Switch cameras, operate robotics, and patch cables as needed
  • Conduct minor video engineering as needed
  • Oversee proper strike and storage of equipment (cameras, audio, etc)
  • Test microphones and IFBs, and place them on talent in the studio
  • Assist department in maintaining high level of event productions

  • Basic Qualifications
  • Pursuit of Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution in Communications, Broadcasting, or closely related field.
  • Computer proficiency in desktop applications with database experience

    Eligibility Requirements
  • Technically savvy with ability to multi-task, cross-train and learn skills quickly.
  • Must be available for all shifts, including weekends and holidays.
  • Must be willing to work additional hours beyond scheduled with no notice.
  • Must be willing to work in New York City.
  • Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States.
  • Must be 18 years or older

  • Ability to think quickly, and keep pace with fast moving shows
  • Strong client service and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to handle pressure in an on-air environment
  • Knowledge of live news TV production processes
  • Advanced PC computer skills or minor in Computer Science
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem resolution skills
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, team-oriented environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
