Digital Content Editor/Writer
Landscape Architecture Magazine, the monthly magazine of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA), is seeking a sharp, enterprising Staff Writer/Editor with the dexterity to shift between editorial and design duties in shaping critical aspects of our print and digital presentation to a worldwide audience.
This position involves managing the magazine’s website, including the posting of articles and artwork in collaboration with a contract web editor; assembly of The Landscape Report, a twice-weekly e-newsletter to readers; tracking product releases to create the monthly Goods section; aiding the art director in page design and giving the final polish on layouts and graphics using Adobe InDesign and Photoshop; and managing the business of the magazine’s editorial advisory committee. It also includes opportunities to report and write news articles and department pieces.
A passion for design and environmental issues is a must, particularly related to land use, water conservation, public and open space, and climate change, as is a desire to explore the democratic process involving the public realm. Some education in landscape architecture or related fields such as architecture or urban design is preferred. The candidate should have impeccable grammar and usage skills, a striving for excellence in writing, a religious attachment to factual accuracy, and an ability to produce high-quality results under tight deadline pressures as part of a six-person staff.
The person in this position will also:
- help support departmental and ASLA-wide planning, performance monitoring, and performance improvement processes and initiatives
- support the ASLA mission and strategic objectives and uphold the values and culture of ASLA
- perform other duties as assigned
