ROLE PURPOSE

The VP International CP Design, Toys & Hardlines will dual report into the Senior Vice President Global CP Design, Toys & Hardlines and SVP & GM Consumer Products, International. This personal will also be accountable to our four regional GMs. This person will contribute to the overall entertainment licensing objectives that drive worldwide brand awareness and deliver revenue to the studio.

The Brand Development Team’s goal is to extend Universal’s franchises through compelling and innovative products that consumers desire and embrace. The VP International CP Design, Toys & Hardlines, is a key position that leads and directs quality product design and development across multiple categories for key regional and global partners from concept through to the finished product.

RESPONSIBILITES
  • Partner with Domestic Category and Design leads to ensure international needs are addressed in product range planning/pricing architecture of master toy deals
  • Partner with the regional teams in the development of local toy deals (specifically supporting LATAM, APAC, EMEA, Greater China)
  • Travel the international markets to work with regional teams, partners and to identify new trends and technologies
  • Partner with regions to develop opportunities around locally relevant IP’s (Felix, CG, Woody, U-Vault properties, etc.)
  • Communicate with global/regional licensees to understand and support local product initiatives and consumer preferences
  • Drive product ideation and innovation for Toys against core IP – identify white space opportunities
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to International Toys and Hardlines Design teams
  • Responsible for quality product design and timely development across all toys and hardlines categories
  • Be a brand steward in all aspects of Product Design – from innovation, trend research, to product strategy, product conceptualizing, developing working models, packaging design to final product approval
  • Organize and lead brainstorm sessions to drive product planning, new ideas and product innovation
  • Track and manage a budget specific to partner product design & development creative solutions and product design & development asset needs
  • Research and share out global trends across all consumer products categories that translate into commercially viable product ideas that work globally and/or regionally
  • Effectively partner with Internal stakeholders (Franchise, Retail, Category, Executives, Studio, Filmmaker etc) , and act as the voice for regionalized needs
  • Implement and share best practices across the business
  • Create and maintain a positive team environment and inspire enthusiasm
  • Analyze and share up team performance on a regular basis.


  • Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors or Associates Degree, preferably in industrial design, product design, graphic design or related field
  • 8-10 years Product Development experience required
  • 5-8 years minimum Managerial experience required
  • Experience with development and manufacturing of hardlines, toys, food & beverage, health & beauty, publishing and consumer product packaging
  • Ability to deliver thoughtful, clear and concise creative art direction
  • Possess a broad understanding of product trends and color sense
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a dynamic, deadline driven environment that revolves around multiple product development calendars
  • Highly organized, proactive – a self-starter
  • Resourceful in knowing and finding outside creative vendors and trend researchers
  • Flexible and ability to find compromise in challenging situations
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Participate in travel – both local and international
  • Mac proficient and advanced skills in Adobe and Microsoft applications required
  • Experience with Maya and 3D applications preferred
