The Communications Manager supports Springer Nature's global Corporate and Internal Communications teams in delivering the global communications plan.

Responsibilities for Global Corporate Communications Team:

  • Work with the Head of Communications, USA to develop a strong corporate communications program designed for Springer Nature and its flagship brands, including Scientific American, Nature Research, Springer and BioMed Central.
  • Build and manage relationships with media, PR agencies, and external contacts, as well as internal contacts
  • Support the running of a press office function, helping to write press releases, PR plans, senior leader briefings, and media toolkits  
  • Pitch media stories to press in a variety of areas including STM, business and consumer media  
  • Propose and assist with the delivery of events, including Springer Nature events and external events
  • Assist team in maintaining, updating, and evolving a content-rich corporate website  
  • Monitor developments of key competitors and wider consumer media trends
  • Any other duties that can reasonably be expected of you


Responsibilities for Internal Communications Team:

  • Work with the team on design and delivery of global and US communication activities
  • Support activities which impact US-based staff and tailor communications as necessary
  • Produce a US Newsletter
  • Devise strategies to engage US-based staff
  • Provide communication advice and coaching to US-based staff
  • Assist with development of communication plans for senior leaders in the US
  • Design and coordinate internal events, including town halls, panel discussions, Q&A, and webcasts
  • Work closely with internal teams, including HR and Facilities, to communicate initiatives in the US
  • Any other duties that can reasonably be expected of you


  • At least five to seven years’ experience in corporate communications 
  • Hands-on experience as part of an internal and external corporate communications team
  • Solid, working knowledge of basic communications principles
  • Excellent writing, including ability to assimilate complex information and translate it into clear, easily understood prose
  • Undergraduate degree in English, Communications, or related field


  • Experience managing PR agencies and contractors
  • Knowledge of publishing, education, or science media preferred 
  • Attention to detail and ability to adhere to established procedures
  • Ability to prioritize and manage tasks
  • Ability to work well within a team
