Chief Editor – Nature Cancer: New York, USA or Berlin, Germany
Springer Nature, the publisher of Nature, is looking to recruit a Chief Editor for Nature Cancer, a new journal that will launch in 2020.
Nature Cancer will welcome the spectrum of cancer research, from preclinical to clinical work. From new insights into cancer biology, to new approaches to the development and delivery of treatment, to new ways of understanding the global societal impact of cancer, Nature Cancer will provide the field with the best cancer-related research and a unique forum for news and commentary.
To help realize this vision, we require an ambitious, dynamic Chief Editor, who will develop, launch and establish Nature Cancer as the leading publication covering all aspects of research in this field.
Applicants must have a PhD and preferably postdoctoral experience, and a strong track record in cancer-relevant research. Previous editorial and managerial experience will be a significant advantage. The position will be based in our New York or Berlin office.
The successful applicant will lead an editorial team, and work closely with them on all aspects of the editorial process, including manuscript selection, commissioning and editing of Reviews and News & Views, and writing for the journal. A key aspect of the job is interacting with the scientific community through laboratory visits and international conferences — willingness to travel is essential.
Working within a dynamic editorial and publishing environment that also includes Nature, Nature Cell Biology and Nature Medicine, this demanding and stimulating role calls for a keen interest in the practice and communication of science. The successful candidate will be dynamic and outgoing, and have excellent interpersonal skills. Broad scientific knowledge and training, excellent literary skills and the ability to absorb new areas of research are prerequisites.
Applicants should send a cover letter explaining their interest in the post, their CV, and a statement that encapsulates their vision for the journal’s content, competitive position and longer-term development in 1500 words or fewer.
