The communications specialist is a key member of the Wilson Daniels’ public relations and communication team. Major areas of focus will be writing and editing copy, obtaining press appointments nationally for Wilson Daniels’ suppliers, pitching stories to the media, ensuring messages are consistent with the company’s overall standards, media and supplier relations and corporate event management.  This role is based in New York City.


  • Write and edit copy (press releases, press pitches, sales kit materials for Wilson Daniels’ suppliers, company website content, internal communications)
  • Work with the public relations assistant VP and PR agency partner to set up press appointments for suppliers visiting different venues throughout the US
  • Respond to inquiries regarding samples, sponsorships, advertising, etc. after reviewing the opportunity
  • Work with the public relations assistant VP to build editorial and seasonal pitching calendars
  • Direct pitching to media
  • Work to ensure messages are consistent with the overall company standards to maintain and promote the positive image on behalf of Wilson Daniels and its suppliers
  • Media and supplier relations within the global and US media to drive proactive, strategic coverage that supports Wilson Daniels global external reputation and highlights our corporate narrative
  • Create and execute communications strategies that integrate owned and earned media and events
  • Oversee wine samples and submissions to top wine trade publications
  • Establish strong relationships with knowledge of relevant media to generate awareness of winery initiatives, new launches, thought leadership, or activities Dig into various areas of our business in order to pitch and place a variety of topics from corporate stories to public disclosures, and react quickly and accurately to issues and general inquiries
  • Corporate event management
    • Responsible for obtaining sponsorships for events
    • Support brand launches by drafting press materials including press releases and pitch announcements
  • Assist vice president of public relations and communication in all aspects of PR
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Four-year college degree in communications, journalism or marketing
  • 2-3 years related work experience
  • Wine and spirits industry experience a plus
  • Prior in-house and/or agency experience a plus
  • Seasoned media relations professional with a strong track record of success and active editorial relationships across US media a plus
  • Strong media sense; compelling influencer able to work closely with journalists to effectively pitch, craft and shape media stories proactively and reactively
  • Superb verbal, written, story-telling and editing skills, including driving engaging and consistent messaging across global communications channels
  • Must be proficient in all Microsoft Office programs
  • Organized and excellent follow-through a must; detail-oriented and deadline driven
  • Proactive, self-motivated, energized, creative, takes initiative with confidence, ability to work with little supervision
  • Team player with a positive attitude
  • Flexible; ability to adapt to changing needs/priorities; ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Technologically savvy: ability to harness new media effectively with a keen understanding of all types of media/channels that will engage our external audiences
  • Adobe InDesign and Photoshop experience a plus
  • Some overtime and travel may be required.
