The City of Anaheim seeks a Video Production Coordinator to join our communications team and help tell the story of one of Southern California's most exciting cities. The video production coordinator creates videos that showcase life in Anaheim and that inform residents, businesses and visitors about the City. The coordinator oversees Anaheim TV, a 24-hour community channel, a YouTube channel and broadcasts City Council meetings. The coordinator also works closely with communications colleagues on videos for Instagram, Facebook and other social media. We are seeking a coordinator with strong video production skills, including storyboarding, filming and editing, fresh thinking on video in social media and an eye for clean, modern onscreen graphics.


Candidates must possess four years of increasingly responsible video production experience and a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in telecommunications, television production, broadcasting or a related field. An equivalent combination of experience and education sufficient to perform the essential job functions and provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. Candidates must have experience using Adobe Premiere and shooting video on DSLR cameras. Motion graphics experience is a plus. Experience with Final Cut 7 a plus. Requires using Tightrope video playback software.



The following functions are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed functions and/or may be required to perform additional or different functions from those below to address business needs and changing business practices.


Conceptualize, produce, direct, film, edit and distribute video productions for the public and internal city presentations.


Capture video of a variety of city events including City Council meetings, groundbreakings, grand openings, major events, press conferences and daily city operations.


Schedule and oversee the programming of Anaheim TV, the city's community television channel; upgrade the look and feel of the channel through branding and onscreen graphics; schedule programs; modify the daily and weekly schedule; monitor the channel for technical problems and address any issues; format conversion for broadcast.


Help create original programming for Anaheim TV and social media that promotes the City as a desirable place to live, work and visit; inform, update, and highlight the operation of City government including lifestyle features, news programs, City Council meetings, civic programs, new projects or programs, emergency alerts and significant events.


Work with communications team colleagues and City departments to coordinate production including scripts, scenes, action sequences, dialogue, narration, lighting, music and settings.


Arrange for appropriate equipment, technical crew, performers and other effects needed for production.


Supervise postproduction work including editing, sound recording, dubbing, and mixing and other special effects.


Perform quality computer graphic design work for all productions created.


Perform technical engineering for studio operations; troubleshoot and maintain production equipment.


Research, analyze, and recommend new methods/equipment to enhance studio operations and efficiency.


Operate a variety of video production equipment including audio, video, lighting, and editing equipment and systems.


Maintain the citywide video library; order necessary supplies and equipment.


Stay abreast of current trends in visual communications and changing communications technologies; participate in professional groups; stay abreast of changing communication technologies.


Schedule and supervise contract employees as assigned; plan, organize and schedule the work of video production contributors.


While a critical part of the communications team, must be able to work independently.


Perform related duties as required.



Experience and Education: Four years of increasingly responsible video production experience supplemented by a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in telecommunications, television production, broadcasting, or a related field. An equivalent combination of experience and education sufficient to perform the essential job functions and provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.


Knowledge of: Operations, services and activities of a video production program; operational characteristics of broadcast and professional video production equipment; technical terms of video production including those used in directing video productions; video editing techniques; design and preparation of graphics and digital video effects; recent developments, current literature, and information related to video production; video and film industry practices, procedures, and processes; government cable access programming; principles and practices of supervision; methods and techniques of public relations; strong visual storytelling; office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and applicable software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and databases; pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations.


Ability to: Coordinate and oversee video programs; write, produce, direct, film, and edit productions into effective communication and training materials; provide technical and logistical expertise in the planning and executing of special and media relations events; set up and operate a variety of broadcasting equipment, cameras, and lighting controls; apply advanced principles and practices of audio and video production techniques; produce and direct live television events; understand the organization and operation of the City and of outside agencies as necessary to assume assigned responsibilities; understand government cable access programming; understand editing systems; utilize standard office equipment including computers and related software applications; work independently in the absence of supervision; demonstrate a positive customer service orientation with both internal and external clients; apply problem solving techniques; operating audio and video equipment; estimate time, cost, personnel and equipment requirements for audiovisual production; plan, organize and supervise audiovisual production activities under varying and adverse physical conditions and subject to assignment on short notice; perform script research and analysis and provide script-writing services; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
