Director, GA Programming and Content Services


DEPARTMENT:                    Content Services

STATUS:                               Full-time/Regular/Exempt
 

"Where Editorial Meets Operations". The Director of General Audience (GA) Programming and Content Services serves as an operational leader in GA content services in support of PBS’ award-winning programming, providing operational management, grant strategy and financial administration related to GA content creation and non-program production activities.

 

Essential duties will include, but are not limited to:

GA Programming Management 

  • Manage, administrate and operate the GA programming content life cycle system in order to track GA programs from greenlight to production and to delivery. 
  • Administrate production operations meetings and prepare, maintain and manage the GA production pipeline report, which includes Direct to PBS, Station and Plus programs.
  • Oversight of operations workflow and business process improvement between editorial and supporting operational departments within PBS, including Production Management, Business Affairs, Finance, Marketing, Digital, Social Media, Publicity, Content Packaging, Creative Services, Administration , IT and PBSd.
  • Strategize and manage operational systems and business tools that improve business processes and workflow within the GA department.
  • Redesign, build and manage the revisions and updates to PBS Producer’s Handbook.

Unit Management

  • Manage and monitor the Packaging budget for GA Audience programs, including actuals reconciliation, reforecasts and planning.
  • Financial management for non-programming production activities, department staffing and operations.
  • Partner with GA divisions for key projects (i.e. - Annual Meeting, etc.)

Grant Strategy and Stewardship

  • Provide management and oversight of key grants and content funding partnerships.
  • Provide analysis of grant management of content strategy and planning as it relates to grant.
  • Serve as key member of GA team for information collection, drafting and reporting various grants.
  • Monitor GA compliance for grant awards and reporting.

General Support

  • Serve as an HR, Admin and IT contact for the GA department.
  • People Management – Onboarding of newly hired staff and mentoring of GA staff.

 

Requirements for success:

  • 7 years’ experience and knowledge of general content production logistics and production scheduling; program life cycles and a fully rounded exposure to industry standards and practices.
  • BS/BA in Film & TV Production or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong project management skills; knowledge of project management software i.e. Quickbase helpful but not required.
  • Deep understanding of production and post production processes and budgeting.
  • Previous experience working for or within the Public Television system helpful but not essential.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Exceptional organizational skills.
  • Detail orientated, team player, collaborative problem solver.
  • Self-starter, with the ability to prioritize among multiple concurrent projects and across teams, while consulting and aligning efforts with overall department leadership.
  • Proficient with: Microsoft Office, with high proficiency in Excel.  Movie Magic and Entertainment Partners budgeting experience a plus
  • Ability to work with and maintain confidential information.
