Position Vacancy - Graphic Designer

Bank Street College of Education, a recognized leader in early childhood education, teacher preparation, and early education research and policy, is seeking a Graphics Designer to play an important role in supporting the organization’s branding and communications efforts. The position reports to the Assistant Vice President, Communications in the President’s Office.

• Conceptualize and create graphic assets for print and digital communications, including but not limited to public- and internal-facing publications, newsletters, and signage; design assets such logos, info-graphics, and charts; and presentations, design templates, and advertisements
• Plan, prioritize, and multi-task to meet multiple deadlines while collaborating with editorial staff and project leaders to produce high-quality materials
• Proactively solve design and technical issues with efficient solutions; provide counsel on best practices; proactively seek out knowledge or tools needed to complete projects as needed
• Incorporate feedback and/or edits into the design process and proactively proof work for clarity and accuracy
• Retouch and correct photos
• Maintain digital archive of final design projects
• Safeguard Bank Street branding on internal and external materials by ensuring design adherence to the College’s visual style guide
• Liaise with printer as needed to ensure final files are ready for print

Technical Expertise
• Proficiency in InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and Microsoft Office (including Power Point)
• High level of creativity, innovation, and organization with an exceptional eye for detail and strong concept, design, typography, and coloration skills
• Ability to connect written content and messaging to design; ability to present data points in pictorial or graphic format and conceptualize infographics; ability to select complementary photos and images that align with messaging and brand values
• Comprehensive understanding of four-color, pre-press, and print production
• Ability to multi-task and juggle multiple deadlines with an appropriate sense of urgency
• Photography skills a plus

• 1-3 years graphic design experience in-house or at an agency and a portfolio of professional work samples
• Strong knowledge and understanding of art, design, and typography principles
• Experience with data visualization and connecting content and messaging to design
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and manage time in a consistent manner
• Attention to detail
• Effective oral and written communication skills
• Personable, team-oriented approach and the ability to collaborate with others
• Bachelor's degree minimum
