Job Duties

  • Provide overall News leadership and drive strategy for News coverage, fostering a culture of creativity and excellence
  • Foster a culture of inclusiveness, and lead the news management team in providing a positive employee experience with employee development and recognition top of mind
  • Collaborate to ensure local newscasts are well conceived and provide multi-platform, high quality coverage, accuracy, and integrity to improve competitive position in the market
  • Create the cohesive standards for all aspects of the on-air presentation in coordination with the Texas Connects Us brand
  • Serve local viewers by providing content that speaks to the diversity of North Texas
  • Implement strategic mission and tactical operation of the newsroom while ensuring the highest levels of journalistic, ethical, TV production and promotion standards are maintained on multiple platforms
  • Oversee day-to-day coverage, big story, breaking news, severe weather, and sweeps planning with consideration of payroll, staffing, field, and news operations to meet established goals and objectives
  • Develop strategic plans for ratings growth for broadcast as well as new media platforms
  • Establish a successful record in recruiting, developing and retaining top talent
  • Manage third party content partnerships
  • Work closely with Brand Marketing team to ensure promotional and branding strategies are aligned
  • Achieve highest standard of integrity in news operation
  • Establish performance goals, guidelines, and expectations; oversee the performance appraisal process across the news organization
  • Manage and lead team of News and Content professionals newsgathering, production, news programming and presentation
  • Lead a team of news managers; coach and develop staff in the arts of management and leadership, recruiting/retaining top talent, and developing their teams in a multiplatform environment
  • Partner closely with Sales, Technology, Marketing, Community Affairs, and other departments to further multi-platform opportunities and support NBC branding and programming initiatives
  • Partner closely with Finance team on budget preparation/maintenance and resource alignment.
  • Prepare departmental budget, develop strategic plans to operate within the budget
  • Must plan for the unexpected and respond well in crisis, keeping the news staff focused and committed to performing under extreme tension and pressure
  • This position reports to the President & General Manager



Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum of 7 years experience in the following:
    o Experience as a Broadcast News Director, Assistant News Director or similar leadership role in a mid to large market
    o Experience preparing departmental budgets, developing strategic plans and presenting in front of large audiences.
    o Experience and success in coaching, leading and motivating a team of news employees
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent work experience
