Assistant/Associate Professor of Media Management

The School of Media Studies at The New School invites applications for an Assistant/Associate Professor three-year renewable-term appointment in the Media Management Program beginning on July 1, 2019.
We are seeking an outstanding faculty member with extensive experience and an established track-record in media management to contribute to the growth and further development of the Media Management program.
The teaching course load is five graduate/undergraduate courses per year or its equivalent, plus advising students and supervising capstone projects. The successful candidate will be expected to teach in the core areas of the graduate and undergraduate programs, and develop new innovative courses within the media management curriculum. The candidate should demonstrate experience in curriculum development and a potential for rotational faculty leadership roles. The candidate will be expected to produce scholarly research and/or creative practice appropriate to their appointed rank and areas of expertise.
Candidates with experience in new business models which employ emerging media, such as online and mobile platforms, Virtual, Augmented, and Mixed Reality (VR, AR and MR) technologies, as well as interlocking programmatic and social media marketing tools are especially encouraged to apply.
The successful candidate should demonstrate inclusive and responsible leadership and work effectively with a diverse student body. Collaboration with management faculties in the Parsons School of Design, the College of Performing Arts, the Milano School of Policy, Management and Environment, and the Bachelors Program for Adults and Transfer Students (BPATS) will be part of this position.
The School of Media Studies at The New School has been defining the field of media studies for more than four decades and providing a broad curriculum that combines theory and practice across graduate degrees in Media Studies and Media Management, undergraduate and graduate certificates, and the undergraduate media curriculum. Seminar courses focus on diverse critical, historical, analytic, and creative methods of investigation, while production courses focus on multiple media forms: cinematic, digital, immersive, sound, and mobile. Our programs are distinguished by their interdisciplinary breadth and commitment to creating media in the service of a more just and humane world. The Media Management Graduate Program enrolls 175 students each year from around the globe in its M.S. Degree and Certificate. The goal of the Program is to prepare students in critical evaluation and professional management to become leaders in the field of media management and entrepreneurship. The student body is internationally and ethnically diverse, with 35% of international students who come from over 20 countries.

We are seeking applicants who have demonstrated excellence as a teacher and practitioner or scholar, who have made significant contributions to discussions in the field of media management and who are recognized innovators. A specialist in media management for nonprofits will be at a distinct advantage.
• A terminal degree in a relevant field or an advanced degree with substantial media management experience is required.
• Three or more years of demonstrated excellence in teaching at the university level.
• Five or more years as a professional media maker, manager, business developer, or consultant.
• Experience with mentoring students.
• Capacity to work well with people from diverse cultural backgrounds and levels of professional experience.
• Commitment to collaborating across the University and with external client partners.

• Business Development and Management in New Media/Film/TV
• Producing content for Film/TV/New Media
• Digital and Social Media Marketing Strategies
• Media Law and Policy
• Media Distribution
