Overview

Tribune Media’s TV by the Numbers website is seeking a part-time (10-12 hours per week) TV ratings expert to assist with day-to-day operations, by writing and publishing the site’s late afternoon and evening ratings coverage on weekdays, as well as the morning ratings every other weekend.

TV by the Numbers is viewed as the leader in the industry when it comes to understanding and dissecting current TV ratings trends, series renewals, cancellations, and longer-term issues surrounding the ever-growing pool of content created for all platforms by a wide variety of media companies.

The position works directly with the editor of TV By the Numbers to help analyze and dissect TV ratings on a daily basis. The writer will have to conform to the site’s already established tone and editorial direction, which focuses on telling stories around TV ratings data rather than recapping episodes of programs or writing about celebrities, actors and producers.

As a writer, you will be contributing to TV by the Numbers’ daily content output, which includes sourcing daily TV ratings data from public and industry sources, pulling ratings data into tables and preparing it for publication online, writing editorial content about said ratings, and distributing the content across various digital and social platforms.

Responsibilities
  • Gather ratings information, analyze and organize it, and publish it in a timely manner.
  • Follow established voice and tone practices of the site.
  • Distribute content to multiple digital and social platforms and drive audience engagement.
  • Cover the final and cable ratings every weekday afternoon.
  • Be on call during weeknights, in case of any late-breaking renewals or cancellations.
  • Cover the overnight ratings every other Saturday and Sunday morning.
  • Be available to fill in for sick or vacationing writer during weekdays.
Qualifications
  • Must have experience working in the entertainment-related digital media publishing industry.
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of television ratings data and ability to translate it to general audiences.
  • Working knowledge of WordPress, Google Analytics, Excel and Google Sheets.
  • Must be a self-starter and able to work remotely and independently
