Kaplan Publishing is searching for a Digital Content Specialist to support authors, editors, and production editors with content creation in HTML-authoring tools.  As Digital Content Specialist at Kaplan Publishing, you will work closely with authors as they create instruction and assessment for print and digital products in an HTML-first authoring environment. The Digital Content Specialist will maintain content standards in HTML5 and CSS3 to ensure the content is built for outputs in multiple formats.


Impact & Scope

The Digital Content Specialist will work with a small team to refine and support standard content and production workflows, helping Kaplan to deliver high quality learning materials to students.

Responsibilities

  • Support product owners and content creators, including project scoping, training, and onboarding
  • Prioritize, develop, and maintain  scripted solutions, including writing requirements, testing solutions, and maintaining versions
  • Troubleshoot and validate issues arising in HTML
  • Communicate system changes, outages, bugs, and updates to a broad user base
  • Identify opportunities for automation in existing workflows

Communicate and collaborate with vendors on specific projects and workflow solution

Requirements

  • 1+ years experience in technical role working with HTML5 and CSS3
  • Experience working with XML editing software
  • Familiarity with content management or version control systems (e.g., Git or SVN)
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Desire to learn, adapt and change, and embrace new technologies to accommodate team/process needs
  • Self-motivated, creative, organized, detail oriented, and deadline-driven
  • Bachelor’s degree in appropriate field of study
     

Preferred Experience

  • Digital publishing background with direct experience developing to current EPUB spec
  • Experience working with XSL, XQuery, and XPath, or other scripting languages (JavaScript, Ruby, Python etc.)
  • Experience with Agile best practices
  • Familiarity with Prince XML
  • Special consideration given for familiarity with the Inkling Habitat platform
