Product Manager, PBS KIDS for Parents

The Product Manager works with the PBS KIDS for Parents team to develop products and services that support the mission of supporting parents of young children in their educational and social-emotional development. This position is part of a grant-funded project focused on enabling PBS member stations to engage with parents in their communities on digital platforms and in person. The Product Manager will also be responsible for project management support on the grant, expected to be 25% of overall duties.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Work with the cross-functional PBS KIDS for Parents team, PBS stations, and other stakeholders to develop product requirements, roadmaps, budgets and other supporting plans for the development of new products and product features;
  • Oversee planning, development, and updates to PBS KIDS for Parents website;
  • Manage the product lifecycle for service related tools for PBS KIDS for Parents;
  • Gathering and prioritizing requirements and working closely with stakeholders, designers, content experts, product managers and other teams and to define the vision and ensure the grant’s goals are met;
  • Serve as Project Manager for the overall PBS KIDS for Parents grant project, which includes local community events, marketing and other non-product functions;
  • Develop and maintain roadmaps. Effectively communicate roadmaps across the company. Work with multiple product managers to ensure product roadmaps align with schedules and requirements across all related products;
  • Ideate new product evolutions collaborating with UX, Content and development to ensure PBS KIDS for Parents is best of class;
  • Manage usability testing of audience-facing products from strategic planning (use case development) to tactical execution (test delivery);
  • Develop analytics dashboard to quantify product performance PBS KIDS for Parents products and features;
  • Use all available resources to advocate for the user. Be an expert with respect to internal and competitive products. Gather and disseminate competitive landscape information to stakeholders on a regular basis. Leverage analytics and user feedback on PBS KIDS products to provide insights into current users and potential audiences;
  • Work with PBS Stations and stakeholders to determine  station content distribution strategies within the Parents Site.
  • Coordinate with PBS staff, PBS member stations, and others to develop tools that will allow stations to incorporate parent-facing content into their digital parent engagement services and will enable stations to access existing parent content created by stations or by PBS.. Gathers requirements from stations including members of the Advisory Board. Ensure products support PBS member stations;
  • Ensure projects undergo rigorous quality control and quality assurance processes. Plan and manage usability and appeal testing of audience-facing products. Manage the quality control process to deliver flawless products to users;
  • Identify digital devices and operating systems creating a test bed that is representative of the PBS KIDS for Parents audience for the specific use of testing Digital Products;
  • Represent PBS KIDS for Parents team to internal and external audiences at meetings, with corporate partners, and other constituencies within the PBS system;
  • Serve as integral member of PBS KIDS for Parents team, participating in group projects and discussions, staying up-to-date on research and related trends, and contributing to overall vision and strategy;
  • Manage budgets and outside contractors;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Two  or more years’ experience in digital product management, online publishing, project management, software development or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Must have experience with web development and CMS management;
  • Must have experience managing projects in a cross-functional team environment;
  • Must be resourceful, self-directed, and a creative problem-solver who can meet aggressive deadlines;
  • Experience with analytics tools a plus;

MINIMUM EDUCATION/TRAINING REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Educational Technology, Interaction Design, Computer Science, Game Development, a related field or equivalent work experience.  Master’s degree a plus.

SKILLS/ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Solid understanding of modern web best practices, content management systems and community management and web analytics tools
  • Knowledge of product management methodologies such as Agile
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Familiarity with early childhood development
  • Strong management skills; ability to work with content managers, technologists and designers inside and outside of the company
  • Superior organizational skills and orientation to details
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills
  • Must be a strategic thinker who can meet aggressive deadlines
  • Ability to plan, problem solve, and prioritize several assignments at the same time.
  • Strong listening and presentation skills, including the ability to manage production critiques
  • High degree of initiative and ability to take charge and lead without day-to-day supervision
