The Ready To Learn (RTL) project is a joint initiative of PBS and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB). It focuses on the development and dissemination of content across media and platforms to improve learning, with an emphasis on building science and literacy skills for children ages 2-8. CPB and PBS partners with producers, science and literacy experts, outreach partners, and evaluators to develop learning content and employ innovative strategies to increase use at home, in the community, and in schools.

 

The Content Development Lead creates educator resources based on PBS KIDS videos and digital games.  Contextualizing PBS KIDS media for formal and informal educator use will be the core responsibility of this position.  A successful applicant will show a true passion for leveraging technology and high-quality media towards children’s learning goals.  In partnership with producers, educational advisors, and teachers, the Content Development Lead gathers and executes on curriculum design plans and specifications, owning editorial production from idea generation to launch. The Content Development Lead will be responsible to ensure maximum impact of PBS Education products and services.

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversees the editorial and pedagogical aspects of PBS RTL content for early childhood education settings and plays a leadership role in all PBS Education early learning content development
  • Continuously learns about, communicates out, and builds resources to reflect best practices in early learning.  Sources include practitioner research, advisor and expert recommendations, research outcomes, industry standards, best practices, and other innovative strategies for gathering and meeting the needs of children, families, caregivers, and educators.
  • Supervises the preparation of digital and print assets according to PBS Education editorial standards, focusing on editorial development and curricular contextualization. Works closely with the RTL team to provide quality assurance for PBS Education resources.
  • Aligns educator-facing content with all Ready To Learn content and experiences, including digital assets and in-person events and initiatives
  • Manages stakeholder relationships, including users/practitioners, member station contributors and facilitators, organizational partners, curriculum developers, cross-functional colleagues, funders, and both vertical and horizontal project leadership.
  • Trains and supports content contributors, including PBS Member Stations, on editorial policy and standards, focusing on curricular contextualization, and ensures that all PBSLM content coming from content contributors is of the highest quality.
  • MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Early childhood education experience highly preferred
  • 5 years of professional experience including in an Editorial environment with education-focused content
  • Experience with instructional design techniques and virtual learning environments.
  • Experience producing online and/or digital web content, including video content.
  • Experience writing materials for publication online and/or in print.
  • MINIMUM EDUCATION/TRAINING REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field of study; Master’s degree strongly preferred.
  • SKILLS/ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Experience with Editorial procedures and content production processes.
  • Strong knowledge of the PreK-12 education market, particularly in the early learning space
  • In-depth knowledge of current curriculum standards for PreK-12 education, such as NGSS and the Common Core State Standards.
  • Knowledgeable about video production techniques
  • Knowledgeable about educational needs of teachers and the ability to develop online content, including video content, based on these and projected needs.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, particularly in the ability to offer constructive, clear, diplomatic feedback to external vendors, consultants, and clients.
  • Strong understanding of the use of digital resources in the classroom.
  • Superior organizational skills and attention to details.
  • Resourceful, self-directed and skillful team player
  • Tactfulness and diplomacy when responding to questions and concerns.
  • Project management experience preferred.
  • Experience working in or with public broadcasting preferred.
