Loyola Marymount University’s Marketing and Communications department has an opening for a Communications Manager. The Communications Manager leads, coordinates, and disseminates strategic communications in support of Campus Operations, primarily focused on supporting the communications efforts of the Department of Public Safety (DPS). This position is a fully integrated within LMU’s Marketing and Communications team, reporting to the Director of Internal Communications, and as an embedded professional, will oversee engagement efforts across Campus Operations by managing the development, maintenance, appearance, and functionality of promotional and communication channels utilized to engage the identified target audiences. The position ensures that communications achieve identified outcomes, promote goodwill, align with the university’s mission and goals, and advance the university’s strategic priorities and brand strategy as part of a broader, synchronized, multi-disciplinary team of communications professionals.
Additional responsibilities include: Manage and implement concurrent, interdependent short-, medium-, and long-term communications tasks and projects that support the university’s and Campus Operations’ goals and priorities. Create and curate content (feature stories, spotlights, etc.) to be disseminated across various communications channels. Produce, edit, and approve traditional and digital communications products that support activities and programs and engage identified target audiences. Ensure projects are completed by identified deadlines and on budget. Assure successful outcomes by adopting best-practice project management methodologies, quality assurance metrics, and risk mitigation plans. Assure the integrity, high-quality, and consistency of the university’s image, tone, style, narrative, visual identity, and brand. Direct DPS communications strategies, including digital communications channels such as social media, and mobile apps to ensure a unified and visually cohesive and integrated user experience that reflects identified outcomes. Lead/manage Campus Operations’ staff internal communications training, protocol, and efforts. Maintain the integrity and accuracy of public information while seeking new and innovative ways to improve the presentation of content, functionality and design of all assigned communications. Ensure applied to and integrated with all work and projects. Review and monitor compliance with branding standards, visual identity and messaging guidelines. Audit digital media channels and recommend solutions. Devise plans and educate clients regarding alternative approaches and emerging trends. Coordinate with MarComm colleagues to incorporate objectives into broader communications and marketing activities, talking points, presentations, reports, social media efforts, and other channels. Provide guidance and leadership on emerging trends, content, design, presentation and production of communications engagement tools and platforms. Guide colleagues, content providers, campus administrators and freelancers in a variety of topics including writing styles, design and functionality. Recommend information architecture approaches and photography selections. Review and/or proofread client copy/design/functionality and report whether objectives are being met. Perform other duties as assigned or requested by leadership.

We seek candidates who typically hold a bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations or related field or equivalent experience, with a master’s degree preferred. Candidates should possess a minimum of four years in a higher-education or non-profit setting preferred, with proven skills, knowledge and ability in communications and/or marketing. Experience with police, fire or public safety communications a plus.
