Manage the Apparel, Accessories and Footwear Design team on all creative aspects of product design and development process from concept through the final product approval; Ensure quality product, trend-forward design and timely development Possess cross-functional team leadership by collaborating with Category, Retail, Franchise/Franchise Creative and FilmmakersWork with licensee development teams in the strategic and commercially viable creation of Universal product offerings Track and manage a budget specific to creation of product development assetsProvide clear and concise direction on trends, graphics, character model draw-overs and creative comments that guide licensee partners through PD process Possess a well-versed knowledge of fashion; including manufacturing and printing processes, assortment planning, graphic and pattern development, branding and trim developmentSeasonally, develop global trends across assigned consumer products category that translate into viable product ideas that best represent animated and live action franchises Lead product concept pitch development in support of retail meetings and creative rolloutsProvide input on team performance in annual reviews
The Brand Development Group is seeking a Director, Product Design to lead apparel, accessories and footwear for Universal Brand Development Consumer Products division. This position will report to the Vice President Design, Fashion & Home, and will contribute to the overall entertainment licensing objectives that drive worldwide brand awareness and deliver revenue to the studio.
Consumer Product’s goal is to extend Universal’s film and franchises into products that engage and delight consumers. The Director, Product Design is a key position that leads the development of quality product across a portfolio of properties from across Universal, Illumination and Dreamworks Animation Studios.
Bachelors Degree, preferably in fashion design, product design or related field
10+ years fashion design and development experience required with 6-8 years minimum managerial experience
Experience with manufacturing of both soft and hard goods for fashion, accessories and footwear product categories; experience in branding and packaging for consumer goods
Demonstrated leadership skills; highly organized, proactive self-starter
Participate in travel – domestic and international
Mac proficient with advanced skills in Adobe Suite, Keynote and Microsoft applications
