Independent book publisher specializing in business, leadership, finance, and management books (in addition to other nonfiction categories) with over 35 New York Times and Wall Street Journal best sellers. We help big thinkers share their ideas with the world. We are dedicated to supporting our authors and helping them grow by engaging in a variety of branding, marketing, and audience building activities.

We are looking for a motivated, creative, and well-connected publicist with a passion for big ideas and the drive to create and execute compelling digital media campaigns on behalf of our authors. The publicist will work alongside an in-house marketing associate in an at-large capacity and report directly to the marketing director. This position will initially be hired on a project basis, with the opportunity to move to full-time as we grow.

Responsibilities include:

  • Execute innovative and effective digital media campaigns for authors and experts
  • Secure podcast appearances, article placements, and interviews with relevant digital media
  • Create persuasive press materials, including media kits, press releases, pitch letters, author Q&A’s, and article ideas
  • Manage media contact list and nurture relationships with key digital media to maximize coverage
  • Assist in the development of processes, best-practices, and timelines for media outreach
  • Brief authors on media engagements and assist in preparation
  • Advise authors on maximizing coverage by promoting to their network through newsletters and social media
  • Coordinate with editorial, marketing, design, and distribution teams on campaign execution and resulting coverage

The ideal candidate will:

  • Experience working in publishing or with authors and/or experts a plus
  • 3-5 years experience in publicity for publishing or related field
  • Solid track record of generating creative angles and pitches with a strong working knowledge of the media landscape
  • Deep understanding of the digital media space including bloggers and social media
  • Excellent interpersonal relations and communication
  • Comfortable being a partner and an advisor to our authors
  • Quickly understand the needs and goals of our authors
  • Be able to demonstrate creative problem solving on behalf of authors
  • Superior attention to detail and scheduling/project management skills
  • Administrative and organizational skills to be able to quickly shift between projects and clients and meet strict deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Computer proficiency including familiarity with Mac and MS Office
