Role Purpose
The Application Developer will be a member of the NBC Sports Digital Technology Team, directly contributing to our digital efforts for the Olympic Games and other high-profile sporting events. This person will primarily be responsible for developing solutions to support NBC Sports and NBC Olympics digital properties, leveraging technology such as Node/AWS/Lambda to create RESTful API’s and microservices. The Application Developer should be passionate, innovative, creative, and possess full-stack skills. This includes being well versed in continuous integration (CI), client/server relationships, troubleshooting tactics, network protocols and content delivery networks.

  • Develop RESTful API’s and microservices leveraging AWS, Node, Lambda, API Gateway and other related technologies
  • Develop front-end solutions in Vue.JS and/or similar frameworks
  • Enhance and develop CSS for fully responsive/adaptive mobile-first experiences
  • Responsible for the development and support of cloud-based applications
  • Develop solutions that meet business objectives while leveraging industry best practices
  • Maintain and/or extend existing solutions, refactoring solutions, to improve performance and security
  • Actively engaged in daily scrums and other facets of project planning and management
  • Collaborate with other internal teams and stakeholders to support the business requirements
  • Provide support during non-business hours as needed
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of NBC Sports portfolio of applications and associated documentation
  • Pursue continuous improvement opportunities associated with existing software development programs

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in a developer/programmer role, working within a technology team
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Excellent understanding of SDLC methodologies
  • Technical experience or aptitude is essential
  • Experienced working with internet-based technologies
  • Ability and desire to continually learn about new technologies and adapt to ever-changing business and industry needs

Additional Qualifications
  • Experience with AWS, Node, Vue.JS, React and other JavaScript frameworks
  • Experience with CSS and CSS frameworks
  • Experience working directly with web and/or digital video development teams, including partners, vendors and freelancers
  • Familiarity using GitHub, code repositories, branching and merging strategies
  • Familiarity and understanding of Continuous Integrations
  • Excellent organization skills, communication skills and attention to detail, and has the ability to clearly and concisely articulate complex concepts for a variety of audiences
  • Ability to break down complex concepts, tasks or problems into more simple, understandable language and action plans
  • Familiarity with Content Management Systems such as Drupal and WordPress
