The Dodo is seeking an experienced and creative storyteller to help launch our new brand, Dodo Kids, as a Kids Story Editor. Reporting to the Editorial Director, you’ll be a key contributor as we develop the department and help hone editorial and growth strategy. You’re a skilled writer with a deep appreciation for brand continuity who will excel at adapting our existing voice and content in a dynamic, engaging way for a new generation of Dodo fans.


 


As the Story Editor for the Dodo Kids team, you’ll be responsible for reimagining and rewriting our existing videos to develop new scripts that appeal to kids in a super fun, engaging, emotionally compelling way — while preserving our existing brand identity. On a day-to-day basis, you’ll work with voiceover talent to ensure the right tone, and manage the Kids Motion Graphics Editor as they rework each video’s visual content to match your scripts and make them maximally engaging and entertaining based on the way kids think. On a big picture level, you’ll use your experience in children’s media to help shape our strategy around distribution and brand development, and will channel your familiarity with the market to proactively structure Dodo Kids’ development in a way that lends itself to advertising and other potential business and revenue opportunities.


 


As our ideal candidate, you’ll have at least 5 years of experience writing and scripting for a children’s media brand with an emphasis on video, and a deep professional familiarity with the children’s media industry and market. You have a dynamic, creative mind, but you understand how creative and business rely on each other and you’re someone who’s always keeping an eye out for brand-building and revenue potential. You’re obsessed with kids’ content, and you’re hungry to help further grow a start-up.

You’re willing and happy to adapt to the changing needs of a developing department while maintaining consistent creative professionalism and a positive, collaborative attitude.

Qualifications:



    5+ years of relevant experience (management experience is a plus)
    Deep understanding of the children’s media industry and market
    Outstanding, consistent writing and scripting skills
    An understanding of what makes children excited, and ability to speak in a fun, digestible, emotionally compelling way that they understand
    Familiarity with social media platforms and distribution strategies, particularly on YouTube
    Ability to independently multitask, prioritize projects, and communicate progress
    Ability to rapidly transition between independent and collaborative work
    A reliable, consistent sense of professionalism, balanced with a great sense of humor
