This position is responsible for producing original news content, primarily for broadcast, including research, conducting interviews, writing and editing scripts, field producing, shooting, and editing. The Field Producer is expected to both pitch story ideas and work on assigned stories developed by the editorial team. The Field Producer will work directly with an assigned correspondent to help write and produce content for NBC News and MSNBC platforms.
Pitch, generate and regularly deliver original stories for NBC News and MSNBC platforms. Maintain all video records, feed necessary and relevant video to bureau/headquarters, communicate to editors and/or desk producers how video should be cut/taken to airWork closely with news and planning teams to develop and execute editorial and logistics live shot plan for the day
  • Communicate clearly and succinctly in fast- moving, high-pressure situations with field team and correspondents as well as individual show teams in NYC to produce smart, visual coverage
  • Make sure script and elements are in show rundown, including (but not limited to) names, big topic banner, flow of intro into script, elements, and charts.
  • Alert news desk/control room of any issues that may compromise shot as soon as possible.
  • Ensure accuracy and compliance with editorial standards, implement security and safety protocols

  • Basic Qualification:
    • Must have a Bachelor’s degree.
    • Must have at least five years’ experience producing live cable, package or long-form programming.
    • Must have at least three years of field producing experience.
    • Must have at least three years’ experience with Avid Newscutter or similar editing system.

    Additional Requirements:
    • Must be willing and able to work flexible hours, under tight deadline pressure, including breaking news. Schedules will rotate, but must be able to work all shifts, including weekends and overnights. Must be able to work additional hours beyond scheduled shift with little or no notice if needed.
    • Must be willing to work in NY, and must be willing to travel significantly.

    Desired Characteristics:
    • Must have deep knowledge of U.S. politics, policy and current events
    • DV shooting experience.
    • Three plus years of experience in non-linear editing
    • Demonstrated strong knowledge and interest in news and current events.
    • Journalistic writing skills, research skills, and editorial judgment.
    • Strong interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments.
    • Knowledge of NBC News Policies and Guidelines and Practices.
    • Experience producing long-form programming for a network or cable news operation.
    • Investigative reporting experience.
    • Demonstrated strong knowledge and interest in news and current events.
