Are you looking for a part-time opportunity in Communications?  The Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) is seeking a part-time Communications Coordinator to assist the Communications Manager in coordinating aspects of APIC’s communication department activities via the APIC website, social media, news media, and print publications.  The Coordinator incorporates APIC’s Core Values of agility, innovative leadership, integrity, stewardship, and teamwork into all aspects of his/her work and work products.  This 20-25 hours per week part-time, on-site opportunity offers flexible hours, a competitive hourly compensation, and benefits.

Major Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate the production of APIC’s weekly electronic newsletter, eNews, including copy editing, plotting in Informz, and writing occasional eNews briefs.
  • Assist in drafting and posting for social media.
  • Monitor and compile weekly “In the News” articles for weekly electronic newsletter.
  • Become proficient with Meltwater Media Database system and maintain APIC media database to ensure that key reporter contacts are updated/added.
  • Build new media lists for press release distribution.
  • Post press releases to the APIC.org homepage.
  • Assist with the production of the quarterly magazine, including article organization and copy editing, photo gathering, reference formatting, and updating the article index.
  • Assist in writing and editing copy for Infection Prevention and You website and Annual Conference digital and print materials, including APIC Daily News.
  • Assist with writing releases on new APIC resources and APIC award recipients.
  • Perform administrative activities related to Prevention Strategist including sending thank you notes and complimentary copies to authors and contributors.
  • Assist with coordination of other communications projects.

Qualified candidates will offer a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or related field plus relevant work experience.  APIC is seeking candidates with an understanding of and experience with social media, proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, and a strong service commitment.  Successful candidates will have excellent writing, copy-editing, and verbal communication skills with an understanding of different audience needs.

This position offers a competitive salary and collegial work environment and is based in Crystal City/Arlington, VA.  Part-time work hours are flexible Monday – Friday between 9 am – 6 pm.  Benefits available to part-time employees include prorated vacation, sick leave, and participation in the 401K after 1000 hours of service in a continuous calendar year.  Hourly rate offered is $22.
