Schneps Media, the publisher of Brooklyn Paper, Park Slope Courier, Mill Marine Courier, Bay News, and Brooklyn Graphic, is seeking a full-time reporter to cover local news, community meetings, and other events in Brooklyn.
Brooklyn Reporter Job Description
The reporter is responsible for writing no less than 10 stories a week — a mix of breaking news, event and meeting coverage, crime coverage, and supportive content. Additionally, the reporter will be responsible for generating his or her own list of 10–15 story ideas weekly, taking photos, captioning photos, and captioning social media posts in collaboration with a digital editor. The ideal candidate will be someone who can effectively identify and report on local stories in Brooklyn — which is fast becoming a news-breaking metropolitan hub on par with Manhattan or other major cities — that are overlooked by larger outlets.
Brooklyn Reporter Job Qualifications
Candidates should be familiar with Brooklyn Paper and its sister publications' tabloid style of writing (which focuses on active, punchy reporting backed up with on the record quotes), and be able to report and write stories on a tight deadline.
Prior writing and reporting experience for a newspaper or its digital equivalent is preferred (whether internships, part-, or full-time positions).
