If the answer is ‘yes’ to any or all of these questions, you could be the person we’re looking for to join the editorial team of Nature Medicine.
Nature Medicine is the premier journal for translational and clinical research in the Nature Research portfolio, publishing only original peer-reviewed research in all areas of medicine on the basis of its originality, timeliness, interdisciplinary interest and impact on improving human health. The journal also publishes News, Reviews and Perspectives, aimed at contextualizing the latest advances in translational and clinical research to reach a wide audience. To help us to build on the success of this journal, we are seeking a highly motivated individual to join our Magazine team.
Your mission will be to commission, edit and develop content for the journal’s Magazine section, both for print and online media. You will be focused mostly on timely short pieces such as Features, Opinions, Comments, Q&As, Turning Points, as well as the development of multimedia content intended to connect basic, translational and clinical scientists, and to express the journal’s editorial voice.
To be considered for the position, you will have:
- A degree in science writing or in the biomedical sciences with significant experience in writing about science and medicine for non-specialists.
- Strong interest in translational and clinical research, in particular as regards to the interface between science, medicine, policy and society.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be fluent in English (written and spoken).
- A good handle of social media platforms.
- Interest in development of online-only and multimedia magazine content.
- Be eager to travel and meet scientists and physicians worldwide, learn more about them and their research.
- Be comfortable with working in a fast-paced collaborative environment and taking on new challenges.
The successful candidate will report to the Chief Editor and the Chief News Editor, and play an important role in helping the chief to develop the journal’s editorial voice. This is a full-time permanent position, located in our New York office. Applicants should send a CV, a writing sample, and a a brief cover letter explaining their interest in the position.
