New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) seeks to appoint an Assistant Director, Executive Communications reporting to the Executive Director, Public Affairs & Communications.

The Assistant Director, Executive Communications serves as a member of NYU Abu Dhabi’s Public Affairs and Communications team and is primarily responsible for writing major addresses, brief remarks, talking points, opinion editorials, presentations, and internal communications for the Office of the Vice Chancellor and the Office of the Provost as required. They will also be asked to develop materials and write for other members of the leadership team when necessary.

The successful candidate will be highly experienced in writing and editing, with at least six years of related work experience in writing and editing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Primary writer of speeches, remarks, talking points, articles, opinion editorials, and other public or internal comments by the Office of the Vice Chancellor and by the Office of the Provost as required
  • Working with the Executive Director, Public Affairs as well as the Offices of the Vice Chancellor and Provost, maintains awareness of schedules, key dates, and the expected length and topics for upcoming speaking engagements
  • Ensures that the appropriate message development, positioning, and other core communications goals are accomplished in each piece
  • Works with members of the NYUAD Leadership team to assist in developing written materials designed to help achieve the core communications goals of the university
  • Assists the Internal Communications Manager as required with reviewing, editing, and distributing internal executive communications
  • Works with the Executive Director, Public Affairs to keep informed of the University’s position on key events, issues, and policy, and develop messaging and remarks that align with the overall communications strategy
  • Works closely with the Vice Chancellor and other members of the senior leadership team to develop and understanding of their style and preferences for speeches and remarks
  • Works with the Executive Director, Public Affairs and Communications during the review, editing, and approval stage in order to ensure a high quality final product
  • Assists in preparing briefing documents for the Vice Chancellor and other senior leadership team in advance of events, to ensure they are appropriately briefed and adequately prepared
  • Conducts independent research to support and strengthen speeches, remarks, and other communications as required
  • Performs other duties as required in support of the Public Affairs and Communications department

Education Requirements Essential

  • Bachelors degree in communications, journalism, or related field

Experience Requirements Essential

  • At least six years of related work experience in writing and editing 
  • Exceptional writing ability
  • Outstanding verbal and analytics skills
  • Fluency in written and spoken English, Arabic a plus
  • Proven ability to adapt writing style to specific speakers, audiences, and occasions
  • Excellent copyediting and proofreading skills
  • Proven ability to translate complex ideas into speeches and remarks
